Since 1887, The Catholic University of America has been
committed to excellence in learning, scholarship, faith,
research and service. With wide-ranging programs in
undergraduate, graduate and professional schools, the
university takes pride in being a community where students
and faculty can pursue knowledge without boundaries and
faith without apology, and create a place where theory and
practice combine to produce a better understanding of our
world and ourselves. This continues to be made possible with
the constant support the university receives from each of
you—our dedicated and tireless benefactors.
Each year, I have the great opportunity and pleasure to share
our success and to thank you for your support. With economic
challenges facing all of us recently, your generosity this year is
especially wonderful. I am most gratified by the $14.5-million-
plus donated to the university by our alumni and friends.
The global economic crisis affected Catholic University in
several ways: our students needed more tuition assistance and
our endowment declined.But rest assured—the university
continued its careful management of CUA’s finances and we
have remained in a stable position.
With your support, the university will continue to prepare
the citizens and leaders of tomorrow, expand the boundaries
of knowledge and meet the challenges of our time. With your
help, we will maintain the longstanding tradition of a
university of global scope and character. Your annual
generosity plays a role in creating an environment of growth
for current students and future generations. Your efforts
enable us to educate in the Catholic University tradition of
