ago,anattackonthePacificaFoundationwaslaunchedbyseveral
right-wingrepresentatives in Congress. With yourhelp andthat
of thousands of listeners like you all across the country, we
foughtbackandfoughthard. Andwewon! Byanarrowvote,the
amendmenttodeflindPacificawas finallydefeated lastsummer.
But it didn't end there. In July ofthis year, those same anti-
democratic, conservative forces started mobilizing once more
against WBAI and our sister stations in another effort to target
Pacificabycutting$1 milliondollarsfi-omtheCPBappropriation.
There—al purposeoftheseBeltwaymachinations istosilenceo—ur
voice silencethechallengeweraisetopolicy and practice
silencethevoicesofpeaceandjusticethatyouheareverydayand
silencePacificaradioasoneofthe leading institutions inpublic
broadcasting. Butthis year, that amendment was passed by the
