Special acknowledgment is due to Maureen Eha for her tireless and capable work in bringing this project into reality. Without her selfless contribution this book would have remained but a thought. For many hours she wrote, edited and transcribed recent messages to capture Arthur Burt’s personality and teaching on paper. Now others who are unable to hear him in person can read, benefit from and be impacted by his message. 4 CONTENTS F oreword ............................................................. 6 1 The Lost Key .................................................. 9 2 Failure: Truth’s Apprenticeship ...................... 13 3 The Devil Made Me Do It ................................ 22 4 Some Keys, But Not the Key .......................... 27 5 Thine Is the Glory .......................................... 37 6 Pride: The Glory of Man ................................. 48 7 If You Want More Grace, Embrace More Truth ................................... 58 8 Unconditional Surrender ............................... 66 9 The Divine Plan ............................................. 77 10 Return to the Garden..................................... 86 11 Lessons Learned ............................................ 100 About the Author ................................................. 114 5 FOREWORD There have been many waves of the Spirit of God throughout the centuries as truth which had been abandoned over time was restored to the church. Beginning in the 1500s there were identifiable waves of reformation, and they have continued until now. In this century the pace seems to have increased as we have experienced the Pentecostal outpouring, the healing revivals, the Latter Rain movement, the charis- matic renewal and more. Unfortunately, the waves of spiritual renewal were usually followed by an ebb that resulted in a variety of 6 Foreword clutter littering the spiritual landscape. The litter usu- ally included human moral failure, doctrinal error, and more fractures and factions in the church. Spiritual unction turned to form. No matter what the end result, the process to failure begins the same way. But the Scripture gives us ways to avoid or return from failure and embrace God’s grace as strength. It teaches us to deal with the cause of failure rather than the effect. As the signs of a fresh move of the Holy Spirit are evident today, it is particularly relevant to see what can prevent the current move from ending in failure as have many in the past. A move of God is really a per- sonal thing— renewing one person at a time. Only as the individual reviving becomes widespread does it become recognized as “revival.” Arthur Burt is a prophet who speaks a word that is for the times. He preaches a message, backed by the radical life he has lived, which calls us to abandon the lesser realm and soar with the eagles in the Spirit. He has had a major impact on my life as he has on many others around the world. Parts of this book were previously published as book- lets in the 1970s under the names The Lost Key and Boomerang: The Funeral of Failure. Those teachings as well as messages from his current ministry were com- bined in this book. His message presents an antidote for failure and the key for long-term spiritual success. It is possible to find the key to stay in God’s plan and presence and not end up as spiritual debris at the end of a move of the Spirit. As you read this book, ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you and show you how to use the key in your own life. Then you can witness “the funeral of failure.” Joy Strang Lake Mary, Florida March, 1997 7 What claim can this little book make as it joins the millions of other books that vie like raucous street vendors for the eye and ear of a fleeting fickle public? To life there are many keys but only one master key! What is it? Where is it? This unpretentious little book claims to declare it!
