Welcome to Universal Type Server
UniversalTypeServer®isthenextgenerationofworkgroupfontmanagementsoftware.Writtenforthe
latestoperatingsystems,thiscross-platformsystemcombinesthepower,speed,andcontrolthat
administratorsneedwiththeseamlessfontdeliveryandelegantinterfacethatusersexpect.
TypeServer®providescentralizedcontrol,consistency,andcomplianceforalllevelsoffontmanagement—
administratorsaswellasclientusers.Administratorscanrestassuredthattheappropriatefontsareavailable
totheclientwhentheyneedthem,androguefontsarekeptoutoftheworkflow.Meanwhile,usersare
certainthattheyareusingthecorrect,approvedfontsfortheirprojectsbyusingtheUniversalTypeClient™.
IfyouhavejustinstalledUniversalTypeServerandwanttogetgoingquickly,youshoulddothesethings:
Log into theServer Administrationapplication.
1. Openanewbrowsertaborwindow.
2. EntertheaddressofyourTypeServer,followedbytheportnumberfortheServerAdministration
application.Bydefault,thisportis18081.
Example:http://127.0.0.1:18081
3. Loginusingtheaccountnameadministratorandpasswordpassword.
Enter your licensenumbers.
1. ClickLicensesinthelistontheleft.
2. Enteryourserialnumberandclick[ Add Serial Number ].
3. IfyouhaveaCoreClientlicense,enterthatserialnumberandclick[ Add Serial Number ].

Afteryouconfigureyourserver,youshouldchangetheadministratoraccountpassword.DothisintheUser
Managementapplication.
1. Openanewbrowserwindowortab.
2. EntertheaddressofyourTypeServer,followedbytheportnumberfortheUserManagement
application.Bydefault,thisportis8080.
Example:http://127.0.0.1:8080
3. Loginusingtheadministratoraccountcredentialslistedabove.
4. IntheWorkgroupspane,clickAllUsers.
5. IntheUserspane,selecttheAdministratoruseraccount.
6. IntheDetailspane,clicktheAccounttabandenteranewpasswordinthePasswordfield,then
enteritagainintheConfirmPasswordfield.
Writeyournewpassworddown;ifyouforgetit,youwillneedtocontactExtensisTechnicalSupport
forassistanceinresettingthepassword.
7. Click[ Save ].

1. Verify server systemrequirements.
MakesureyourservermeetsorexceedsthespecificationsfoundattheProductSupportpage
(http://www.extensis.com/support/product-support/universal-type-server-6/).
2. Runtheinstaller onthetargetserver computer.
YoucandownloadthelatestversionoftheinstallerfromtheProductSupportpage
(http://www.extensis.com/support/product-support/universal-type-server-6/).Fordetailed
installationinstructions,seeInstalling Universal TypeServeronthenextpage.
Notethatyoudonotneedtoinstallthesoftwareontheserver'sbootpartition.
3. Log into theServer Administrationapplication.
TheServerAdministrationapplicationisbrowser-based;itwillstartautomaticallywhenthe
installationiscomplete.Tostartityourself,seeOpening theServer Administrationapplicationon
page 9.
4. Enter your Universal TypeServer serial number.
SeeUniversal TypeServer Serial Numbersonthenextpage.
5. SettheBonjour Name(optional).
BonjourmakesiteasyforuserstofindyourTypeServer.SeeSetting theBonjour Nameonpage 18.
6. Checkfor and resolveportconflicts.
UniversalTypeServerrequiresseveralopenportsforcommunication;ifanyoftheseareinuseby
othersoftwarethenyouwillneedtochangethem.SeeResolving PortConflictsonpage 13.
7. Setany desired server configurationoptions.
Thiscouldinclude:
n DefiningaBackupPlan(seeDefining aBackup Planonpage 24);
n ConfiguringLogFiles(seeLog Filesonpage 10);
n Anyothernecessaryserversettings.
Afterinstallingtheserver,opentheUserManagementapplication.Fromhere,youcanconfigure

Copytheinstallerontotheserver’sharddisk,double-clicktolaunchtheinstallerandfollowtheinstructions.

Aftertheinstallerruns,theinstallationapplicationstartsyourwebbrowserandopenstheServer
Administrationapplication.

Youcanadministertheserverusingawebbrowseronaremotecomputer.
Entertheserver’sIP Addressintoyourbrowser’saddressfieldfollowedbya
colonandtheportnumber18081.Ifthisportisalreadyinuseonyourserver,

Universal Type Server Serial Numbers
UniversalTypeServerislicensedonaconcurrentusermodel:yourlicenseallowsacertainnumberofusersto
connectatthesametime(concurrently).
TobeginusingUniversalTypeServer,youmustfirstenteryourproduct’sserialnumbersusingtheServer
Administrationapplication.
Note:Yourserialnumbersarelistedinyourproductreceiptemailandarealsoavailablebyloggingintoyour
accountattheExtensiswebsite(https://secure.extensis.com/loginpage).
To serializetheserver:
1. LogintotheServerAdministrationapplication.
2. ClickLicenses.
3. EntertheClientserialnumberintothefieldandclick[ Add Serial Number ].
4. IfyouhavealicenseforTypeCoreClients,enterthatserialnumberandclick[ Add Serial Number ].
5. IfyouhaveanEnterpriselicense,enterthatserialnumberandclick[ Add Serial Number ].
