WorkbythefirstauthorduringthepreparationofMaster'sdissertation, onthelocal floraofMt.Xiaobaicaoling,YunnanProvince,China, showedthattherewasaproblem withthegenusMyriactis.Thisgenus,withc. 12species,isdistributedfromCaucasus through southern and southeastern Asiato New Guinea, with one species in South America(Bremer1994). Lessing (1831) established Myriactis with two species, M. nepalensis and M. wallichii, but didnotdesignatethetypeofthegenus. However, hedid indicatethat he had seen a specimen ofeach ofthe species in the Hornemann Herbarium, and published them basedonthe specimens collectedby Wallich (Lessing 1831). The holotypes ofM. nepalensis andM. wallichiihavebeen located in Copenhagen(C). Myriactisnepalensis was illustrated intheprotologue (Lessing 1831) anditis clear thatthegeneric characterswere abstractedfromthisspecies. Thegenusislectotypifiedas follows: Myriactis Less., Linnaea 6: 127 (1831). Lectotype (designated here): Myriactis nepalensisLess.
