HenotonlypassedhisoralexaminationbutalsosubmittedhisPh.D.thesisat theendofhisfirstyearatYale. TheinceptionoftheLanglandsProgramcanbedatedto1967.In1972,he wasappointedprofessorattheInstituteforAdvancedStudyinPrinceton,New Jersey,USA,wherehehasbeenaProfessorEmeritus. ProfessorLanglandshasreceivednumerousprestigiousawards,suchasthe 1996WolfPrize(withAndrewWiles)andthe2007ShawPrize(withRichard Taylor).Heisalsotherecipientofthe2018AbelPrize,whichhasoftenbeen regardedastheequivalentofthe“NobelPrize”inmathematics.
