THE CORRELATION BETWEEN TRANSLATION ABILITY AND READING HABIT TOWARD WRITING ABILITY (A Correlation Study to the Twelfth Grade Students MAN 2 Surakarta in the Academic Year 2015/2016). Thesis. English Education Program. Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty. IAIN Surakarta. Advisor : Zainal Arifin, S.Pd., M.Pd. Key Words : Correlation Study, Translation Ability, Reading Habit, Writing ability. The thesis is aimed to find out the correlation beetwen (1) translation ability and writing ability; (2) reading habit and writing ability; (3) translation ability and reading habit toward writing ability. This study is a correlation study. There are three variables in this study, students’ translation ability as the independent variable (X ), reading habit as the 1 independent variable (X ) and Writing ability as dependent variable (Y). The 2 study conducted at MAN 2 Surakarta. The population of the study was the twelfth grade students of MAN 2 Surakarta in the academic year 2015/2016. The sample of this study is 25 students from XII IPA 3 class. The sampling technique used is cluster random sampling. The researcher used test to obtain the data of students’ translation ability, then questionnaire to obtain the data of students’ reading habit level and test to obtain the data of students’ writing ability. The researcher used Product Moment formula to know the coefficient correlation and linear regression to find out the significance correlation between students’ translation ability (X ) 1 reading habit (X ) and their writing ability (Y). 2 There three results of the study, fist hypothesis, showed that the coefficient of correlation between students’ translation ability (X ) and their writing ability 1 (Y) is higher than 0 (0.9083>0) and linear regression showed that t is higher obtain than t (10.415 > 2.069). The researcher concluded that there is significant table positive correlation between translation ability and writing ability among the twelfth grade students of MAN 2 Surakarta in the academic year of 2015/2016. Second hypothesis, showed that the coefficient of correlation between students’ ix reading habit (X ) and their writing ability (Y) is higher than 0 (0.6939>0) and 2 linear regression showed that t is higher than t (4.621 > 2.069). The obtain table researcher concluded that there is significant positive correlation between students’ reading habit and writing ability among the twelfth grade students of MAN 2 Surakarta in the academic year of 2015/2016. Futhermore, the third hypothesis showed that the coefficient of correlation (r between students’ yx1x2) translation ability (X ) reading habit (X ) and their writing ability (Y) is higher 1 2 than 0 (0.8304>0) and linear regression showed that t is higher than t obtain table (24.443 > 3.44). The researcher concluded that there is significant positive correlation between translation ability and reading habit toward writing ability among the twelfth grade students of MAN 2 Surakarta in the academic year of 2015/2016. It means translation ability and reading habit is a good predictor for the students’ writing ability. x
