The text of the sutra appears in large characters, while notes from the commentarial tradition fill the margins and even the space between lines and on the back of the paper. Thought to stem from his early years of study under Honen, this copy reveals Shinran’s intellectual energy, which continued to his death at the age of ninety. National Treasure.
