phonology, working backward from the vowels and consonants of Coptic
to those that can be deduced for earlier stages of the language. Part Two
isdevotedtogrammar,includingbothbasiccomponentssuchasnounsand
the complex history of the verbal system. The book thus provides both a
synchronicdescriptionofthefivemajorhistoricalstagesofancientEgyptian
andadiachronicanalysisoftheirdevelopmentandrelationship.
