In 1957 an instrumental song was released by Bill Justis named “Raunchy”. It had a new
sound with a twangy lead guitar effect that made it a hit. It also featured a saxophone lead.
That combination of instruments was seldom heard in those days.
Soon after, a line dance appeared. Until that time I don’t remember doing many line
dances.
I did a web search on the name “Texas Hustle dance” and I found lots of ‘Hustle” dances,
but no “Texas Hustle” dance. The steps to the dance were very simple.
Formation; Line Dance

1-8 Side, Close, Side Right: Side, Close, Side Left.
9-12 Starting with the left foot, back up three steps and Touch with the Right foot.
13-16 Rock forward on the Right foot. Rock back on the Left foot. Step forward on the
Right foot and turn 1/4 left face.
I still use this dance to introduce new dancers to line dancing. It’s one of the dances
printed in “Dancing for Busy People”.

Since “Raunchy” is a song that has stood the-test-of-time I think the dance should still be
