Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (India), in 2007, under theaegisofitsCentre forSocialEntrepreneurship,tookupthisresponsibilityand launched an innovative master’s programme in social entrepreneurship to train a cadreofprofessionalsocialentrepreneurs.Sincethen,theCentreoperateswithdual responsibilityofknowledgecreationanddisseminationwhilebuildinganetworkof academicians, scholars and practitioners. It is satisfying to know that the Center createdaforumandinvitedscholarlyworkfromacrosstheglobetodeliberateon thethemeof‘Technology,InnovationandSocialChange’.Thiseditedvolumeisa compilation of these research papers which also unfold many issues, innovations, theoriesandcases ofsocialchangewithapplicationoftechnologyandinnovative solutions. Thisvolumeoffersmultipleperspectivesonthesubjectofsocialchange;thereis nosingletheoryemphasizedoranyattemptmadeinthisvolumetogeneralizeany aspectoftechnologyapplication.Readersareinvitedtounderstandthecontextand the related appropriate and specific role technology and innovation can play. The four themes offer them opportunity to conceptualize better. The first theme intro- ducestheconceptsofsocialinnovationandprovidescriticalanalysis.Authorshave consideredsocialinnovationasanessentiallycontestedconceptandarguethatthe scholars must raise above definitional debates; equally important is the empirical evidence to explain how social enterprises serve the marginal and micro- enterprises.
