Pre-Apprenticeship: Building a Talent Pipeline, Presented by: David G. Taylor Cummins, Inc. Employed by Cummins, Inc., for 38 years, David G. Taylor has held a number of positions, including as a Technical Training Instructor and Quality Process Leader. Currently, he is Vice President of Service Operations for the Engine and Power Generation. David has worked a total of 44 years in the Diesel and Heavy Equipment Industry, during which time he has served on the Board of Directors for North Carolina Industries for Technical Education from the early 1990s through the early 2000s. He also has chaired development of the AAS degree curriculum for Diesel/Heavy Equipment for 13 North Carolina colleges. In 2015, David launched the first USDOL Registered Apprenticeship program, with a goal of having more than 500 apprentices in the pipeline in six colleges in the country by the end of 2020. He also is leading the School-to-Work initiative to create partnerships with high school vocational-technical programs for pre-apprenticeship programs across the United States and Canada. Taylor April 2018 TAP Introduction  Project background – Joined Global Team July 2012 with an emphasis to develop a registered Technician Apprentice Program for North America  Team Members – Malcolm Gent, Tony D’Acunto, Narelle Constable and global ABO’s  Worked with US Department of Labor and submitted proposal for acceptance which was approved for all 50 States  Worked with the first partner Community College in Charlotte NC to implement a new AAS Degree Educational Model  Ribbon Cutting Event March 2015 with David Geraghty as keynote speaker for Cummins Inc. at Central Piedmont Community College US Department of Labor  Apprenticeship Definition: – The length of apprenticeship program depends on the complexity of the occupation and time of program (Time Based, Competency Based or a Hybrid) During the program, the apprentice receives both structured, on-the-job learning (OJL) and related classroom instruction (RTI).
