What isa Hatter? Theunlikelycombinationofafamoushat manufacturerandauniversitygettingtogetherproducedanovelnickname tin Stetson l'niversity. Theathletic teams arecalled "Hatters", reflecting theI(Diversity'sassociationwithJohnB. Stetson, makerofthewell-knownStetsonhats. Itailstartedbackin 1883whenHenryDeLand founded the DeLand Academy. Threeyearslater,afteradisastrousfreezeaffectingthecitrus industryleftMr.DeLandinfinancialtrouble, Mr. Stetson,whohadawinterhomeinDeLand,becameinterested intheschool.
