Description:

What if you can enter a madman's cruel mind as he plans his vicious crimes? What if you can see the terrified face of his prey as he moves in for the kill—but you can't stop his frenzy once he strikes?

Psychic Cassie Neill helps the L.A. police catch killers—until she makes a terrible mistake and an innocent child dies. Cassie flees to a small North Carolina town, hoping that a quiet life will silence the voices that invade her unwilling mind. But Cassie's abilities know few boundaries. And she's become certain—as no one else can be—that a murderer is stalking Ryan's Bluff.

It's his fury that Cassie senses first, then his foul thoughts and perverse excitement. Yet she doesn't know who he is or where he will strike. The sheriff won't even listen to her—until the first body is found exactly where and how she predicted. Now a suspect herself, she races desperately to unmask the killer in the only way she knows: by entering his twisted mind. Her every step is loaded with fear and uncertainty...because if he senses her within him, he'll trap her there, so deep she'll never find her way out.

In Stealing Shadows, Kay Hooper introduces FBI agent Noah Bishop, whose rare gift for seeing what others do not helps him solve the most puzzling cases. Now, Bishop's adventures continue in two new electrifying tales of psychic suspense.

Beware of what you see. It's dawn when the police arrive at the murder scene. The victim is propped against a tree, her eyes still open, her head tilted, her lips parted in a silent cry. Just as Cassie Neill predicted. Just as she saw while she was inside the killer's mind. The killer knew she was there. And next time he won't let her get away.

From Publishers Weekly

Even though psychic Cassie Neill has traveled more than 3,000 miles away from Los Angeles, she finds that she cannot escape her destiny, any more than victims can escape the serial killer stalking the small town of Ryan's Bluff, N.C. Having retreated to an isolated home left to her by an aunt she never met, Cassie thinks she may have found peace at last. Her psychic ability to connect with the minds of killers and to see through their eyes has allowed Cassie to save lives, while all but destroying her own. Ryan's Bluff seems like the perfect hideaway, but it is not long before Cassie is plagued by visions once again. Cassie knows that local officials will be skeptical of her abilities, particularly since her aunt, also a psychic, was considered the town eccentric. So she goes to Judge Ben Ryan for help. When her claims that a murder is about to take place prove true, cynical town sheriff Matt Dunbar grudgingly accepts her help. In spite of occasional stiff dialogue and some clich?d language, Hooper (Haunting Rachel) constructs a fast-paced, suspenseful plot in this first book of her new series. She does a skillful job of making Cassie's psychic abilities seem like fact rather than fiction, explaining carefully how it is that Cassie can enter the mind of a serial killer and how she might get trapped there. And while the budding romance between Cassie and Ben is awkward and their dialogue seems forced, the story's complicated and intriguing twists and turns keep the reader guessing until the chilling ending. From Booklist

The first in a planned "thrill-ogy" of suspense novels, this is a serial killer tale charged with deeply felt dread and romance that will steal readers' hearts. Cassie Neill has inherited a psychic gift from her mother that is a mixed blessing at best because it enables her to enter the minds of serial rapists and killers. From her aunt, she inherits a house tucked away in a corner of quiet little Ryan's Bluff, North Carolina, where she takes refuge, hoping to distance herself from the grueling work she's done for the Los Angeles Police Department. But, just as there's no rest for the weary, there's no rest for the wicked either, and visions of a deranged man's plans to kill prompt Cassie to visit Ben Ryan, the small town's prosecuting attorney. Skeptical but interested, Ben finds himself drawn toward the oddly bewitching Cassie, just as she is pulled ever further into the psychotic soul of evil. Whitney Scott
