Under his direction, the Eagles have com- piled an impressive 87-59-2 record and have become regular members ofthe NAIANational Baseball Poll. Priorto assuming his duties as head coach, Howard spent three season as an assistant here at Avila. He also spent 2 suc- cessful seasons atAvila as a player. Howard began his baseball career at Hughson High School in California where he was a four-year standout player. He then played one season at Porterville JuniorCollege (CA) before transferring to Bakersfield JuniorCollege. While at Bakersfield, Howard earned a Gold GloveAward and was named an All-Conference player. Following his careeratAvila,Howard was selected to play in Holland with the USAAthletes International team. Bobby Wolfe returns to the dugout for his second season as an Eagle assistant. Wolfe, a former player at Avila under Howard, will serve as the Eagles first base and hitting coach. Michigan native Tom Miller returns for his third season as the Eagles pitching coach. Miller, a native ofWestphalia, MI, pitched at Glen Oaks Community College (MI) and Ohio University. He was then drafted by the Boston Red Sox and AssistantCoach AssistantCoach spent time with the San Francisco Giants organization. Miller and his wife Annie Bobby Wolfe Tom Miller reside in Overland Park, KS. Josh Key is a Kansas City native and is attending law school while coaching at Avila. Josh came to Avila in 2004 and has contributed a great deal to the program. In addition to his on-the-field coaching duties. Key serves as the Eagles recruiting coordinator. Michael Hayes enters his first season as a member ofthe Eagle coaching staff. Hayes played outfield at Emporia State University for two seasons will serve as the Eagles outfield coach this season. Chapman’s previous coaching experience includes stints as the head coach ofthe Helena Bearcats 18 & under team in 2000, and as an assistant coach ofthe Sleeping Giants 16 & under team in 1999 and 2000 . Chapman received her bachelor’s degree from Avila in 2002 and currently teaches in the Center school district of Kansas City. Young graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and health. For the last 21 years, she taught physical education at Raymore-Peculiar high school and also coached both softball and basketball. In her eight-year career as the Ray-Pec softball coach, Young compiled an impressive 179-41 record. Her teams won eight straight district championships and made two state tournament appearances. In 2002, Young’s team won the Missouri Class 4A state championship. Young was also an active summer coach, coaching competitive club soft- ball for 10 years. Coach Young is the wife ofAvila football coach Bruce Young. The Youngs have three daughters, Julie, Lindy, and AssistantCoach Kara.
