Preface Recently, social network data analysis is gaining more importance in various domains, suchasbusiness, crimeanalysis.Itisrapidlygaininginterestoftheresearchcommunity invariousaspects, whichisbasicallymappingandmeasuringofrelationshipsandflows betweenpeople,groups,organizations,computers,URLs,andotherconnectedinforma- tion/knowledgeentities.Itisadifficulttaskduetotheavailabilityofhugeamountsofdata alongwithverycomplexstructures. Therefore, asystematicdiscussiononvarioussocial network-related issues and challenges is always on demand. In addition, there are very limitednumbersofbooksandresourcesavailableinthisdomain.Inviewofthis, anedited volume focus on various technical concepts and aspects of social network analysis was planned. Contributions werereceived from across the globe on some emerging areas of researchinthisdomain, such associalnetworkpatterns,socialnetworkmodels,visual- izingandmodeling, modelingsocialchange, socialnetworktechniques, statisticalmodels for social networks, SNA characteristics, social networking applications, various case studies,socialnetworkingchallengesandfutureperspectives.Outofthese,13contribu- torychapters wereselected to develop acomplete volume. The book is segregated into three sections based on the nature of the contributions; thatis,IntroductionandBackground,SocialNetworkAnalysisandApplicationsandCase Studies. Introduction and Background section comprises two chapters; three chapters formtheSocialNetworkAnalysissectionandwehaveeightchaptersunderApplications and CaseStudies. Social network and its various aspects are introduced by Panigrahi and Borah in the firstchapter.Theyarealsodiscussingclassification,prediction,andanalysisofsocialnet- workdatausingFacebookmetricsdatasetasanexample.Supervisedclassifiersareused fortheanalysis.Design,issues,emergingtrends,andsecurityofsocialnetworkareelab- oratedinthesecondchapterbyRathetal.Thechapteralsoexhibitsanexhaustivereview ofvarioussecurityandprotectionissuesinsocialnetworksthatdirectlyorindirectlyaffect theindividualmemberofthenetwork.Furthermore, differentthreatsinsocialnetworks havebeenfocusedthatappearbecauseofthesharingofinteractivemediacontentinsidea social networking site. Leila Hedayatifar puts forward a discussion on the emergence of stable and glassy states in the dynamics of social networks. This chapter is a part of the second section asitprovidesananalysisonthestatesofthesocialnetworks.Itisfollowedbyadiscussion ontheconceptofde-anonymizationofanonymizedsocialnetworksbyB.K.Tripathy.He alsohighlightsthealgorithmsdevelopedsofartoachieveitbymakingananalysisofthe effectiveness of these algorithms. Additionally, some problems in that direction, giving light on furtherresearch arediscussed. xvii
