RiE is organizedeveryyear with thegoalto provide the opportunity for the presentation of relevant novel research and development in a strongly multidisciplinary context in the educational robotics domain. Educational robotics is an innovative way of increasing the attractiveness of science education and scientific careers in the view of young people. Robotics representsamultidisciplinaryandhighlyinnovativedomainencompassingphysics, mathematics,informatics,andevenindustrialdesignaswellassocialsciences.Asa multidisciplinary field, it promotes the development of systems thinking and problem solving. Due to various application areas, teamwork, creativity, and entrepreneurial skills are required for the design, programming, and innovative exploitation of robots and robotic services. The fascination for autonomous machinesandthevarietyoffieldsandtopicscoveredmakeroboticsapowerfulidea to engage with. Robotics confronts the learners with the areas of science, tech- nology,engineering,arts,andmathematics(STEAM)throughthedesign,creation, and programming of tangible artifacts for creating personally meaningful objects and addressing real-world societal needs. Thus, young girls and boys can easily connectrobotstotheirpersonalinterestsandsharetheirideas.Asaconsequence,it isregardedasverybeneficialifengineeringschoolsanduniversityprogramstudies includetheteachingofboththeoreticalandpracticalknowledgeonrobotics.Inthis context, currentcurricula need to be improved and new didactic approaches for an innovativeeducationneedtobedevelopedforimprovingtheSTEAMskillsamong young people. Moreover, an exploration of the multidisciplinary potential of roboticstowardaninnovativelearningapproachisrequiredforfosteringthepupils’ and students’ creativity leading to collaborative entrepreneurial, industrial, and research careers. In these proceedings, we present methods and applications for teaching and learninginthefieldofeducationalrobotics.Thebookoffersinsightsintothelatest research, developments, and results regarding curricula, activities, and their eval- uation.Moreover,thebookintroducesinterestingprogrammingapproachesaswell v vi Preface as new applications, technologies, systems, and components for educational robotics. The presented applications cover the whole educative range, from ele- mentary school to high school, college, university, and beyond, for continuing education and possibly outreach and workforce development. In total, 45 papers weresubmittedand27papersarenowpartoftheseproceedingsafteracarefulpeer review process.
