Times to remember "Time is a companion that goes with us on a journey. It reminds us to cherish each moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we have lived." (Patrick Stewart, from "Star Trek: Generation") As time goes by things change: people, looks, personalities, friendships, and life. The times of the past are now times to remember: growing up, starting with preschool, graduating sixth grade, trying so hard to get through the junior high drama, and then going into high school. Students all make friends, make choices, and make themselves what they are today. Everything they do influences what they will be and everything they have done influences who they are today. In elementary school, students do not think about making friends that they will have for a lifetime, or who they will turn out to be ten years from then. Elementary school is the time to learn the basics, the time to learn what individuals need to survive in junior high and high school. When students think back to then, they will remember the good times, and the greatest memories. For some, the most dominant memories are of parties, but for others, family. Knowing now that the choices students make and things they do change who they will be, time is more important and valuable. In high school individuals are still making memories Getting ready for Santa to come and bring them and becoming who they are. Rakhee Bhakta, Nallely Mendoza, Alejandra Mojica, and Nataja Harris spend some time together in the library. At the boy's soccer banquet, Angel Franco and Marco Casteneda are "too cool to smile"according to Coach Conan Dalton. The famous Hershey Kiss made by the freshmen shows their pride for their team Jerrica Gallegoes and Brittany Unzel sit in the stands and watch their football team smash Quincy. The band walks on the track and plays their Rocky fight song to get the student section excited for the game and the dance. Brent Hergert and a friend cheer on Rocky hoping that they win their homecoming game. Rashauna Homes, Antania Clark, and Kindra Hearn, have fun together at a Rocky game. Samantha Garrison stands on her elevated platform to lead the band at the half time performance. Football coach Mr. Craig Allison jumps along the sideline hoping for his team to score a touch down, while Coach Ed Lillis watches. Sarah Tollenaer and Stephanie Spragg get escorted by fellow court memeber Alex Clark down the track as they get announced before the game. Time to get togetfler Pink, orange, purple, and blue are definitely not Rock Island's school colors, but those are the colors everyone sees when they walk into the school the Thursday before the Homecoming dance. And students usually don't wear dresses and suits to school, but that' what people see when they come into the school on GQ day. Mismatch day is a different story, because some students mismatch all the time, as a part of their personality, but people will see all types of swimming suits over jeans and backward pants as well on Rocky's mismatch day. All of these things add up to conclude Rock Island High School's Homecoming week festivities. A lot of students get involved and show their school spirit. The week helps students interact with others and helps the freshman lighten up a bit, and let them know that Rocky isn't all about being mature, and sometimes students and staff like to let their hair down, kick back, and have some fun. During the week the junior and senior girls plan their TP-ing, and the junior and senior girls all get together and try to beat out each other and win the Tug of-War contest. But somehow every year the seniors win. Maybe it is because they have had an extra year to drink more milk and build some more muscle. The football team practiced hard all week to win the game. This year the Rocks beat the Quincy Blue Devils with a score of 41-14. And last but not least, some students scrounge for a date last minute and make some last minute reservations for dinner. After all the time spent, the week is very tiring, but it ends up to be the best week of the whole year, a week filled with excitement, variety, and times together. Coach Ed Lillis stands on the sideline to watch his team :s performance. The scoreboard in the backround shows how Rocky blew away the Blue Devils. Mia Mayberry, Baillie Johnson, Leigh Gordon, and Courtney Ashby try to stay wann at the homecoming game and take a picture to remember the fun night. Allyson Holman takes her time to make her junior tug-of war shirt. The seniors beat the juniors very easily. Reese Taylor gets ready to return the ball from the kick off Antania Clarr:k, Shaylnn Burrage, Renae Boemcke, Elisa Perez.
