During the time of writing this thesis I received support and help from many people. In
particular, I am profoundly indebted to my supervisors Josep-Maria Arauzo-Carod and
Miguel Manjón-Antolín who were very generous with their time and knowledge and
assisted me in each step to complete this thesis. Their good advice, constructive criticism,
support and flexibility were essential.
I am also grateful to the Universitat Rovira i Virgili for giving me the financial support to
assist several times as a visiting professor, as well as the financial assistance for attending
