Description:
The report was done by a largely volunteer team within Pakistan, and represents the first comprehensive look at youth programs in two areas: Punjab and the Islamabad Capital Territory. It is the first of a five-stage mapping exercise that includes all of Pakistan. Bargad’s research team, led by Dr. Khan, reviewed a total of 852 survey forms in order to distill the final data set. The findings reveal the keen level of interest at this time in youth programing, especially educational programming, and the dedication and determination of many committed volunteers in Pakistan. Some volunteers use their own resources to support the programs where they work. However, the report also reveals the need for better coordination between the programs, more youth serving on the Boards of Directors of those programs, more women in leadership roles and on the Boards of Directors of the programs, more emphasis on programs in rural areas, more work to be done with marginalized and out-of-school youth, and the need for NGOs to work more closely with existing and established youth programs. This report represents the first step in a hopefully thorough examination of youth programing in Pakistan.
