Honk! and Hold u -U· Your_ijeru:{ r ~ Lq ,_, ., '""" ='-'m With a marvelous set and outstanding dance numbers, the After- School Drama Club's spring musical production of Honk! was a success As explained by the opening song A Poultry Tale, the musical took place on a farm that mcluded ducks, chickens, turkey, fish, and the lone cat; and is based off of the the story The Ugly Duckling by Hans Chnstian Andersen Director Ms. Melanie Bolt sa1d, "I thmk all aspects are equally important when making a musical. However, I thought the sets were amazmg." The main character of the story was Ugly, played by Jordan Moncrief 10, who eventually turned into a swan The female lead role of Honk'. Ugly's mother Ida, was played by Cheyenne Bolt '10, who filled in for Jessica Barno '1 0 after she was unable to perform. Even though all of the cast were playing animals, they still dressed as regular humans, with their outfits incorporating animal characteristics. Each scene involved unique costumes and dances. "The Froggy Dance scene was my favorite because it took so long to get it perfect, and we did. It was a great accomplishment," stated N1cole Corbin '11 After two months of rehearsals, the cast and crew were finally able to perform to audiences with six different show times. Philip Vasquez '1 0 said, "The most exciting part about Honk! practices was takmg naps on the b1g, comfy couch " Once the last Sunday matinee show finished, everyone that worked on the production was Invited to the Huron Physical Arts Center 1n Downtown Port Huron, to enjoy the foam pit and eat pizza and chips. Ugly, played by jordan Moncrief '10, talks about his journey home with the swan Penny performed by Emily Shinavier 09.
