He servedthe town asa volunteerfire fighterin the years before ourpermanent department was established, selflesslygiving ofhis time while raising his familyandrunning his own business. He volunteeredas a laborer while the town'spoo! was being built, so thatthe children ofourcommunity couldhave safe andfun-filledsummers. Appointedto the Sewer Committee, heactedIn an advisory role as the town researchedthe conceptofInstalling a sewersystem andtying into North Attleboro’s treatmentplant. As an electedofficial, Mr. Lomasneyservedwith greatintegrityIn many capacities. He was a Water Commissioner during the 1950’s. Heservedten years on the Finance Committee In the 1960’sand 1970’s, showingable leadership when the Police andFire Station was builtandthe Town Hallrenovated. He was Town Moderator from 1962to 1984 andfrom 1991 to 1992, leading our Town Meetings with both dignity andhumor. Andfinally, heservedas anAssessorfrom 1977to 1992, guiding the town through theyears 1977to 1992. Alwaysa difficultJob, heservedthe community with a wisdom andjudiciousness thatbecame allthe more valuable afterthepassing ofthe taxlimiting legislation ofProposition2 1/2. Mr. LomasneyIs a sterling example ofwhatourfounding fathers expectedofthe citizens ofthis republic’sparticipatory democracy. He has lednot with words, but rather with deeds. Formanycitizens ofPlainville, Mr. Lomasneyhas been a mentor, an educator, a guiding Influence, and, mostespecially, a friend. Hepossesses the uniqueabilityto forcepeople to lookatallsides ofan Issue, toaskthose challenging questions thatsomepeople maychoose to Ignore, andto leadpeople to develop conclusions oftheirown. Thespiritofthe Town Is Indelibly marked with the wisdom andgenerosityofDavidLomasney, andftIsa giftfor which the community shallbe foreverIndebted. A tribute Our town has lost ten ofits outstanding civic leaders during the past two years and It is the wish ofthe Board ofSelectmen that these esteemed individuals and their record ofservice In public office be placed In the current annual report.
