It is a gift beyond measure to know someone who accepts you just as you are. I want to thank Debra Smith, my editor, who had the idea for the pin loom weaving books and graciously invited me to take these steps with her toward our hoped for pin loom renaissance. V v V vi Introduction Welcome to fast, fun weaving. If you have ever wanted to work with fiber but didn’t find knitting and crochet that interesting, you’ll find pin loom weaving easy and absorbing. If you are a weaver and would like a small loom that you could carry anywhere, a pin loom makes a perfect complement to those larger proj- ects. Pin looms shrink the weaving process down to a portable frame. The series of pins around the loom make for a lightning-fast warp and allow you to produce a piece of cloth with no waste warp, weave through only half as many times as with a normally warped loom, and produce a piece of cloth with a finished selvage all the way around. Pin looms can also be used to introduce weaving to kids and allow them to build coordination and col- laboration skills while having fun as a group. For many people, loom weaving has meant using a bulky contraption that sat at home or in a studio. This book opens the door for weavers and non-weavers alike to engage in this simple approach to weaving and fiber arts. It contains complete instructions for building a 2" loom, resources for finding each of the looms, and directions for how to weave on each one. Pin loom weaving is especially attractive for: 0 Weavers who would like to carry a small loom with them when they are away from the studio. Weavers know how much fun weaving is, and pin looms allow them to carry the weaving experience wherever they go. 0 Spinners who would like an easy approach to weaving samples or who want to make the most of small amounts of precious yarn. Not only can pin looms assist in planning out larger projects, they can also turn that sample into a bag, cuff, or blanket. 0 People who are interested in weaving but want to start on a simple, inexpensive loom. Weaving with a pin loom lets beginners quickly build an understanding of the weaving process. Its small scale makes it possible to complete a woven cloth in minutes, not days.
