member of the Committee of Management of the Cork Butter
Market, the Cork Corn Market, the South Charitable Infirmary,
and the County Hospital. Married, firstly, in 1865, Ann.
daughter of the late Thomas Forrest, of Castle View, Blarney,
and has issue four sons and four daughters; secondly, July

Aldworth.- MAJOR JO H~ CHARLES OUVER ALDWORTH,
:\" ewmarket Court; son of the late Charles Oliver Aldworth;
born in co. Cork, in I86) ; educated at St. l\Iark's Schools,
Windsor. Succeeded to N e'vvmarket estates on death of a
cousin in I907 ; in I889 joined the 3rd Batt. Shropshire Light
Infantry (Militia) ; after six years transferred into the 9th
North Cork (:VIilitia) King's Royal Rifles; retired in I908 as
Major ; served two years in South African war ; has King's
and Queen's Medals with clasps; member of Duhallow Hunt.
Married, in IgOI, Stephanie Cecil, daughter of the late John
Stephen Collins, J.P., of Ardnalee, Corrigrohollf\ co. Cork, and
has issue three daughters. Club : Cork County.

Engineering at Queen's College, Cork, I906; Member of the
Ulster Rugby Fifteen, 1899, 1900 and 1901, and President
of the Irish Rugby Football Union, 1909-10. Married, July
zznd, I907, Hilda Barbara, daughter of the late J. W.
Bennett, 01 Birmingham, and has issue one son, Conel Hugh

co. Cork; son of Kyrle Allen, J.P., born November 15th,
1837 ; educated in England, and Dr. Browne's, Bandon,
Justice of the Peace for co. Cork. Married Sarah Anne,
youngest daughter of John Philpott, of Mount Zephyr, l\hll
street, and has issue. two sons and four daughters, of whom
one son and three daughters survive.

Allen.- LIEUT.-COLONEL EDWARD ALLEN, Stone Hall,
Glandore; second son of the late Christopher Allen, J.P., of
Stone Hall, Glandore, co. Cork; born at Stone Hall, September
6th, 1859; educated at Eastman's Naval Academy, Southsea,
Hants, with a view to his entering the ~avy, afterwards at the
Royal :'I1ilitary College, Sandhurst. Joined the 86th Regiment.
afterwards known as the 2nd Batt. Royal Irish Rifles, in
August, 1879 ; saw actiye service throughout the Boer war,
1899-1902; present at the battle of Stormb~rg, relief of
'Vepener, and took part in operations' in the Orange River
Colony, and Cape Colony; mentioned twice in Dispatches,
and Brevet Lieut.-Colonel; South African Yfedal and two
clasps; also King's Medal and two clasps; retired September,
1902. Recreations: shooting, yachting, and mo~oring.
Married, in 1902, Katherine Pearpoint, nee Black, grand
Lieut.-Colonel Edward Allen. daughter of the late General Arthur Spottiswoode.
AlIen.- ROBERT ALLEN, LLD., Coolgrena House, Rush
brooke, co Cork; fifth son of Joseph Allen, merchant, late of
Ashton Lawn, Blackrock, Cork; born at Roreen Mannah House,
near Cork, February 7th, 18-+8; educated at Queen's College,
Cork, then a College of the Queen's University in Ireland;
Prize man and Scholar in Mathematics an~ Law; graduated
with Honours, in 1868, and subsequently took the degrees of
LL.B. and LL.D.; a member of the King's Inn in Dublin and
Middle Temple; admitted to the Irish Bar, in 1871, and pro
ceeded to India, where he practised as an Advocate of the High
Court of Judicature at Fort vVilliam in Bengal; at Calcutta
from February, 1872, until March, 1905, when he retired; for
many years a member of the Board of Examiners for the
admission of Articled Clerks as Attorneys in Calcutta, and also
an Examiner in Law in the Calcutta University; has resided

since retirement at Coolgrena House, Rushbrooke. Married
Alice, fifth daughter of the late Dr. Vililliam Christopher Townsend, of South Mall, Cork, and has
issue four sons and two daughters.

Allman.- JAMES ABRAHAM ALLMAN, 'vVoodlands, Bandon,
co. Cork; son of Richard Lane Allman, M.P., J.p., of Wood
lands, Bandon, last Liberal :\1.P. for Bandon Bridge and joint
owner of Bandon Distillery and Bandon' Brewery; and of
Francis Vernon, third daughter of James Splaine, J.P., of
Garrane, Templemartin, co. Cork; born at Bandon, June 13th,
1867 ; educated at Rugby. For ten year., resided at Pau,

Avarache, and St. Malo. Was for a short time engaged in
Bandon Distillery; then took the position of a country
gentleman; later became, and is, managing partner of
Bandon Brewery. Recreations: hunting, fishing, shooting"
and yachting. For some years a member of County Cork
Club, also of the Cork and the Royal Albert Yacht Clubs.
