Description:
In late 2019, I happened to come across a word I had never seen before, one that had not wormed its way into my lexicon: phantasmagorical. It appeared salient within the body of text for I did not recognise it, though I immediately related it to the not dissimilar words “fantastic” and “magical.” I grabbed my phone to discover the meaning of this lexical wonder, and it returned: “very strange, like something in a dream”. The word generates the production of fantastic mental images that resemble illustrations that can only be found in science-fiction comics or images only ever before seen in movies.

Phantasmagorical does not just manifest images of a utopian scene; this could merely be a mirage, a perceptual illusion, a trick, a delusion, a fallacy. As well as observing the positive aspects of the future of human civilisation, I will present to you the potential dangers that lie lurking around the corner, the controversies, and the obstacles that humanity face.
This book is split into eight main chapters, which are the domains I consider to be the most influential and important to the future of our species. The eight chapters are information, commerce, food, architecture, health, transport, computer science, and entertainment.

The purpose of this book is to give you a glimpse into the history of each domain, discuss in detail the companies, products, research, and ideas that are currently occupying the space, and provide predictions on what we might expect in the future. This is my own personal consideration of the future of humanity. My hope is that you will consider and construct your own vision of the future. With that in mind, we can begin our phantasmagorical journey.
