Oregon State Defense Force Oregon State Defense Force Camp Withycombe 10101 SE Clackamas Rd Clackamas, Oregon 97015-9150 Phone: (503) 557-5458 Fax: (503) 557-5255 The Legislature established the Oregon State Defense Force (OSDF) to provide Oregon with a trained military force if the National Guard is ordered to federal service. With the Governor as the commander-in-chief, the OSDF serves within the Military Department and is administered by the Adjutant General. The OSDF is organized under military Tables of Distribution and Allowance and maintained at optimum cadre strength. The OSDF provides a network of units and individuals in the communities across our great state. Member Obligations The members of the Oregon State Defense Force (OSDF) are enlisted by contract or commissioned by the Governor. They are required to execute the oath of office. OSDF personnel may, at their request, resign from the OSDF. Obligations of OSDF members: 1. Satisfactory attendance at scheduled training and administrative meetings. (Approx. 16 hours a month.) 2. Maintain good physical condition standards.3. Adhere to standard military dress code and customs of the service. 4. Work as individuals or together as a unit to perform specified duties, when directed by the Adjutant General. Normally volunteers will serve without pay. However, under special circumstances the costs incurred by the individual in the performance of their duties may be reimbursed.5. Also, the Adjutant General may order individuals, separate units or the entire OSDF to state service. When ordered to state active duty, members are paid at their current authorized pay for their military rank. ( Time and grade.) 6. When on state active duty, OSDF personnel are subject to the provisions of ORS Title 32, Military Affairs; Emergency Services as well as the OCMJ (Oregon Code of Military Justice) as well as other military department, including OSDF, published regulations. The Legislature established an additional purpose for the Oregon State Defense Force (OSDF) to augment the National Guard, when they provide military assistance to state and local civil authority. Toward this end the Adjutant General, has established guidance for the OSDF primary training missions. Provide a military organization trained to administer and to safe guard designated public property when the National Guard is employed elsewhere. Provide a professional and technically trained personnel to augment the National Guard with their domestic support mission. Provide assistance to the National Guard in the areas of family support, emergency services, recruiting, employer support of the guard and reserve (ESGR) and also funeral honor details. OSDF Regional Response Teams (RRT) may be attached to National Guard units to augment their domestic support mission opperations by: Providing administrative and headquarters support such as liaison service to Civil Emergency Operations Centers (EOC) and small and/or remote site headquarters. Provide direct support to the National Guard in the areas of security and surveillance. Providing service support including military family assistance. Providing professional, technical and public services including medical, engineering, chaplain services, military history museum, OSDF Pipe Band. Provide community service through volunteer support of civilian and military events. EXAMPLES: Camp Rosenbaum, Youth Citizenship CampSouthern Oregon Stand Down, for homeless veterans
