Efficient regulation, strong governance and oversight of pension schemesareneededtoensurethattoday’semployeeswillenjoysecureand adequateretirementpensionstomorrow.OECDgovernmentshaveagreed onsevenCorePrinciplesofOccupationalPensionRegulationtoassistin meetingthisobjective. TheCorePrincipleswereoriginallydevelopedby theOECD'sWorkingPartyonPrivatePensionsandwereapprovedbythe OECDCouncilinJune2009. The Methodology for Assessment and Implementation provides a structuredapproachforevaluatingajurisdiction’sregulatorysystemfor privatepensionsinrelationtotheCorePrinciples.Thepurposeofthe Methodologyistoprovideguidanceinthedevelopmentoffuturepolicy. It wasoriginallydesignedin2008astheprimarytoolfortheexaminationof theprivatepensionsystemsofcandidatecountriesforAccessiontothe OECDaswellasatoolforregulators,governmentofficialsandstakeholders tohelpinotherassessmentprocesses.
