It is for individuals, organizations and small business owners. Studies show that the process of achieving success is remarkably consistent from person to person, from organization to organization and from business to business. You can achieve success by following an eight-step method that is clearly outlined in this book. These eight steps will provide you with a clear picture of your current situation and the means for achieving your personal goals on a day-to-day basis. Identity If you have no concept of your identity, then you have nothing on which to build your plans for the future. A lack of identity often results in a lack of direction. You must know your strengths and weaknesses; otherwise the process of defining your goals and working toward them will be flawed. Page 2 In Your Personal Life The key question is: Who am I? Your answer should be an accurate self-assessment that examines how others see you, how you choose to spend your time, the quality of your relationships and your strengths, skills and weaknesses. It is an honest personal inventory. In Your Professional Life The key question is: Do my career and professional expectations mesh with the goals, expectations and identity of the company or department I work for? Or, if you're a small business owner, do my career and professional expectations mesh with the goals, expectations and identity of the company I have established? This is an honest professional inventory. You can get so busy working, so tied up in urgent matters, policies and procedures, that you may no longer understand the role you or your department plays in the organization and how those roles relate to the larger corporate identity. Similarly, as a small business owner, you may become so absorbed in paperwork and playing "the boss" that you forget how to relate to your employees, the people who can truly make or break your business. Outcome Outcome means achieving a desired result. The outcome is the destination of your journey. Don't be deceived into thinking that goals and outcome are the samethey are not.
