RCA has made maximum use of the experience gained with the NASA safety process on previous spacecraft programs i n the preparation of this package. This package also reflects the continuing effort at RCA to refine our spacecraft safety packages. We believe that this package i s totally responsive to the NASA safety requirements (as detailed i n NHB 1700.7A, and KHB 1700.7A). This package has been prepared as outlined i n JSC-13830A and the Mars Observer safety analysis has been performed using the guidelines i n JSC-11123, as specified i n JSC-13830A. The spacecraft i s being built for the California Institute Of Technology Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) by RCA Astro-Electronics Division. RCA, as the prime contractor, provides the spacecraft bus and i t s associated subsystems and conducts the system integration and test activities for the entire flight system. The scientific payload i s provided by JPL to RCA for integration with the spacecraft bus. The scientific payload subcontracts are managed by JPL. This package i s directed toward the RCA provided bus and spacecraft subsystems while the scientific payload i s discussed i n an appendix to this package t o be supplied by JPL. 1
