DCEO anditspartners aretargetinghomeswiththehighestenergybills and lowestincome. Weatherizationservicesareprovidedbylocal CommunityActionornon-for-profitagencies throughoutthestate. TheLocalAdministering Agencythatprovidesweatherizationservicesinyour areaislistedinsidethisbrochure. Bycontactingthe agencyinyourarea,youcanapplyforweatherization services. Fromfall2009toMarch2012,Illinois’ weatherizationeffortswillgetaboostfromthe AmericanRecoveryandReinvestmentAct(ARRA), orfederaleconomicstimulus,funding.Duringthis period,atotalofS242 millionwillbespenttohelp Illinois families.Thanks to the influx, the state’s networkofLocalAdministeringAgenciesisexpected toweatherizethreetimesthenumberofhomesthathave beenweatherizedinthepast.Inadditiontoprovidinga long-termcostsavingstofamilies,weatherizationefforts actuallycreatehealthier,sometimesevenlife-saving, homeenvironments. Dependingonthecircumstancesandcondition ofyourhomeorapartment,thefollowingareexamples ofweatherizationupgradesthatcanbedone: • Sealingcrackswithweatherstripping andcaulk • Insulatingatticsandwalls • Repairingwindowsanddoors Weatherization Servicesincludehavingan experiencedheatingcontractorinspectyourheating system. This contractorwillmakesuretheheating systemissafeandinsatisfactoryworkingcondition. Maintenanceonyourfurnacemayincludeoneor moreofthefollowing: • Cleanandtune • Repair • Retrofit • Replacementoftheunit How Does the Program Work? 1.The applicantshouldcontact the appropriate Local AdministeringAgencylisted inside thisbrochure toapply. 2.The agencywilldetermine ifthe applicant’s household isincome-eligible fortheprogram. Afterthe agencyreceives the appropriate documentation,the applicantwillbe notified concerningeligibilitywithin30days. 3. Onceahousehold isconsideredeligible,atrained agencystaffmemberwillassessthehome and conductanenergyaudit. Thisauditwilldetermine whatadjustmentscanbe madeto savethe most energy. 4. Determinedmaintenancetoyourhomewillbe scheduledbythe agency. Astaffmemberwill contactyouto arrange aconvenienttimefor weatherizationworktobegin. 5.Usingaworkordergeneratedfromyouraudit, experiencedenergyspecialistswillapplythe appropriate materialstoyourhome. 6. Oncetheupdatesandmaintenancehavebeen completed,ahomeinspectionwillbeconducted to makesuretheworkissatisfactory. Who is Eligible? Eligibilityisdeterminedbyfamilysize and householdincomeinaccordancewithfederal guidelines.Weatherizationservices arefree to householdsthatmeetthefollowingcriteria: 1. Householdseligibleforthe LowIncome Home EnergyAssistanceProgram (LIHEAP) 2. Households that have an occupantreceiving SupplementalSecurityIncome (SSI),Temporary AssistanceforNeedyFamilies (TANF), orAidto AgedBlindandDisabled (AABD) 3. Households at orbelowthe followingincome accordingtothechart 1 INCOME CHART EffectiveJuly/,201 Size of Family Annual Income i $21,780 2 29.420 3 37.060 4 44.700 Fora householdwith more thanfourfamily members, add an additional $7,640foreach person.
