The program is administered by the State of Illinois. Weatherization services are provided by local community action or not-for-profitagencies throughout the state. The local agency that provides weather- ization services in your area is listed on the backofthis brochure. By contacting the agency provider in your area, you can applyforweatherization services. Although most dwellings waste energy, different types of houses and apartments have different energy problems. Depending on the circumstances and condition of your dwelling, some of the following weatherizationworkmaybe done: SEALING CRACKSWITH WEATHER STRIPPING AND CAULK INSULATINGATTICSAND WALLS REPAIRING WINDOWSAND DOORS Weatherization services include having an experienced heating contractor examine your heating system. This contractor will make sure the heating system is safe and in good working order. Work on your furnace may include one or more ofthe following: CLEANANDTUNE REPAIR RETROFIT A IN SOMECASES, REPLACEMENTOFTHEUNIT A person contacts the appro- 1. priate local agency listed on the back of this brochure and an application is made. 2. The agency determines if the household is income-eligible and notifies them within 30 days after all the required documentation has been received. 3. If the household is eligible, one of the trained agency staff will assess the home and conduct an energy audit (survey) that will deter- minewhatworkcan be done to save the mostenergy. 4. The workto be done on your home will be scheduled and the agency will contact you to arrange a time for the weatherization workto begin. 5. Experienced workers using the work order generated from a computerized1a.udit will apply the appropriate materials toyour home. 6. The home is inspected to make sure the work is com- Eligibility is determined by fami- ly size and household income in accordance with federal guide- lines. Weatherization services are free to households that: Are eligible for the Low Income Home Energy Assist- ance Program (LIHEAP); 2. Have an occupant receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Aid to Aged Blind and Disabled (AABD); or 3. Are ator below the following annual income chart: Size of Annual Family Income Income 1 $13,965 Chart 2 $18,735 3 $23,505 4 $28,275 (effective (For a household with more than July 1, 2004) four, add $4,770 for each additional person.) Renters maybe assisted ifthey are eligible and the land- lord agrees to the program terms. A 50 percent landlord contribution for weatherization work is required for rental property. Income-eligible households with high energy bills in relation to income, and those containing young children, persons with a disability, and/or elderly members will be given priority and receive Weatherization services first. Non-priority, income- eligible households will be served if funding is available; therefore, some eligible households may not receive weatherization during the yearthey apply.
