fi RE H ffi E!.i ` lhhhI .--i.-=-`- RE Hunting Creek Baptist Church HISTORY As a result of a call from Suck Spring Meeting House in 1828, a group of Christians broke away to form the Hunting Creek Church which was organized in 1832. It was not until 1839 that a deed was recorded conveying property on which a log building was located. The deed refers to the building as the Hunting Creek Meeting house. u-trE :reex was first asked to host an annual meeting of the Strawberry Association on May 28, iiial Tilir .lava hosted this annual meeting on several occasions and most recently in 2006. Sunday Schcol rooms were added to the frame building during CL - i 1921, Robert L. Camden, a young Hunting Creek Member, was called to the ministry in -i- lE sEr`cd more than 60 years. . He was named Pastor Emeritus in 1979 when he retired. The -+±±± liil ves named in his honor. During the early 20's the church ordained the Rev. R.D. Brown. r===±±±=± sEded on the land and support of the church was difficult to find. The members kept the t]--c=E±a@ed the centennial of the church September 1932, while Rev. J.M. Many people have built upon the foundation known as Hunting Creek Baptist Church. Through faithfulness and commitment, we are able to celebrate today. As we celebrate 175 years of ministry, we must remember where the church has been as we lcok with a hopeful eye toward the future. Hunting Creek Baptist Church has had a tremendous influence in the Big Island community and around the world for many years. May we continue to build upon the foundation laid many years ago under the power and direction of the holy spirit so that the next generation can celebrate their history and continue on in the faith of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Brown 1921-1925 Secretary - 4 i- Vacation Bible School began for the children at Hunting Creek in 1938 under the leadership of Edith Vaughn. She later became a missionary to Brazil. Priscilla Goff and Melissa Overstreet were co-leaders in 2007 with 76 in attendance. In 1943, Hunting Creek began a library containing Christian books and material that people could borrow. The first director was Bernice Yoder. Today, it has become an outstanding media library, and continues to be a useful resource and outreach for the church and community. The present library committee consists of: Carolyn Morehead, Eva Yoder Sikes, Mickey Rusher, Darnell Byers, Vickie Wright, and Jean Hughs. 6 i- 8
