Thisbookseekstofillthatgapbyprovidinganaccountofthepoet- ics of the tragic genre. The author describes the varied handling of spoken dialogue and of lyric song; major topics such as vocabulary, rhetoric and imagery are considered in detail and illustrated from a broad rangeof plays.
