This issue ofThe Victorian Naturalistpublishes the results ofrecent work, in the form
ofa Research Reportandtwo Contributions. In this instancethere isno concentration in
geographic area, flora or fauna. These papers help to maintain one ofour aims for the
journal,tobeboth informativeanddiverse in itscontents.
As part ofourcharter ofkeeping ourreaders informed about natural history, reviews of
recently published works in this field have an integral place in ourjournal. Such is the
volume ofpublishing, and the regularity with which this output arrives in our mailbox,
that we could easily devote most ofeach issue to reviews! However, in this particular
issueno spaceforreviewswasavailable.
Like this one, recent issues ofthejournal have been 32 page in length, the advantage of
this form beingthat it is the mostcost-effective wayto maintain aproperratioofpapers
to reviews and still have colour where required. However, this does nothing to reduce
thebacklogofreviewsthatarereadyto bepublished.
