Tlierecent,andseeminglycontinuing,burstofcoldanddampweathermaybegoodnewsforthose
people interested in fungi, but it doesn’t hold manyattractions for outdoor activity otherwise. It
ispleasing,therefore,thattheEditors haveawarmplaceinwhichtoshelter, andworkonprepar-
ingcopyfor The VictorianNaturalist. Itisallthemorepleasingthatthereisarangeofinteresting
papersforthemtoincludeinthejournal.Aswithanyperiodical,thereisalwaysapotentialforan
ebb arid flow’ in thesubmission ofmaterial suitable forpublication. Weareperhaps fortunatein
thattodatewehavenothadtocurtailtheproductionoftheFNCVjournalthroughlackofsubmis-
sions.Inpart,thismaybeafunctionofthediversityofourinterestsinnaturalhistorybut,evenso,
aftermorethan 130yearsofpublication,itisnosmallboast.
Thepresentissueisagoodexampleofthevarietyofsubjectmatterthatfindsaplaceinthisjour-
nal: mammals, invertebrates, plants and fungi are all included here. Following our comments in
theApril2013issue,regardingoldermembersofFNCV,wenotewithregretthepassingofDrNoel
Schleiger,yetanotherlong-servingandhighlyactivemember. Publicationoftributestomembers
suchasNoelisoneofthelessenjoyablefeatures ofourtask.
