AWARENESS OF THE VIRTUES OF THE FIRST TEN DAYS OF DHUL-HIJJAH AND RIGHTEOUS ACTIONS WITHIN THEM A compilation of Quranic and Prophetic Proofs with Statements of the Scholars j "And by the Ten Nights." Allaah the Most High says, ْ َ َ َ َ ﺮﺸﻋ لﺎﻴﻟو ٍ ٍ "And by the ten nights"1 Imaam as-Sa'dee rahimahullah said: "Allah swears with: ْ َ َ َ َ ﺮﺸﻋ لﺎﻴﻟو ٍ ٍ "And by the ten nights" And they are, according to what is correct: Either the last ten nights of Ramadaan or the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah." 2 Ibn Katheer rahimahullah said: "The ten nights refers to the (first) ten days of Dhul- Hijjah. This was said by Ibn `Abbas, Ibn Zubayr, Mujahid & others among the Salaf and the latter generations."3 1. Surah Fajr: Verse 2 2. Tafseer As-Sa'dee - Surah Fajr 3. Tafseer Ibn Katheer - Surah Fajr - V.10 p.468 "There are no days greater than these" The Messenger said: ﷺ ﱠ َ َ ُ ْ َ ْ ﱡ َ َ ُ ﱠ َ َ ﱠ ْ َ ﻩِﺬِ َﻫ ﻦﻣِ ﻪِ ﻠﻟا ﻰﻟإ ﺐﺣأ ﺎﻬﻴﻓِ ﺢﻟِﺎﺼﻟا ﻞﻤﻌﻟا مٍ ﺎﻳأ ﻦﻣِ ﺎﻣ ِ ْ َ ْ َ ﱠ َ ْ َ ﱠ َ (ﺮﺸﻌﻟا مﺎﻳأ :ﻲﻨِﻌﻳ) مِ ﺎﻳﻷا ِ ‘There are no days wherein righteous actions are more beloved to Allaah than these 10 days (i.e, of Dhul-Hijjah).’ 1 The Messenger said: ﷺ ْ َ ْ ً ْ َ َ ْ ﱠ َ ﱠ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ ﺮﻴﺧ ﻦﻣِ اﺮﺟأ ﻢﻈﻋأ ﻻو ،ﻞﺟو ﺰﻋ ﻪﻠﻟا ﺪﻨﻋ ﻰﻛزأ ﻞﻤﻋ ﻦﻣِ ﺎﻣ ٍ ٍ َ ْ ْ َ ُ ُ َ ْ َ ﻰﺤﺿﻷا ﺮﺸﻋ ﻲﻓ ﻪﻠﻤﻌﻳ ِ "There are no actions more praiseworthy in the eyes of Allah azza-wajall, nor greater in reward, than the good that is performed in the ten days of al-Adhaa (10 days of Dhul- Hijjah)"2 The Messenger said: ﷺ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ ُ ﱠ َ ْ ﱡ ﱠ ُ َ ْ ﺮﺸﻌﻟا مﺎﻳأ ﺎﻴﻧﺪﻟا مِ ﺎﻳأ ﻞﻀﻓأ ِ "The best days of the 'Dunyaa are the ten days of Dhul- Hijjah."3 1. Abu Dawud 2438 - Sahih - al-Albani 2. Saheeh at-Targheeb wat-Tarheeb 1148 - Hasan - al-Albani 3. Saheeh at-Targheeb wat-Tarheeb 1150 - Hasan - al-Albani 'Allaamah Ibn Baaz on these 10 days "Verily, it is incumbent upon the person during these ten days that he be especially diligent and increases in the performance of all acts of goodness. For indeed, it has been authentically established from Allaah’s messenger that he said: ﷺ ﷺ ‘There are no days wherein righteous actions are more beloved to Allaah than these 10 days (of Dhul-Hijjah)."1 And in a variant wording, "No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah)"2 And in another hadeeth reported by Imam Ahmed, Ibn ‘Umar narrated that the Messenger said: ﷺ “There are no days greater with Allah, nor where actions are more beloved to Him in them, than these 10 days (of Dhul-Hijjah), so increase within them at-Tahlil, at- Takbeer and at-Tahmeed.”3 1. Abu Dawud 2438 - Sahih - al-Albani 2. Sahih al-Bukhari 3. Musnad Ahmed - 1/132, 2/75 'Allaamah Ibn Baaz on these 10 days Imaam Bukhari rahimahullah said: Ibn ‘Umar and Abu Hurairah would go out to the markets in these ten days and the last ten (nights of ramadhan), and they would make takbeer. The people would then make takbeer, due to their takbeer.1 So, what we take from this is that these days are days of great virtue. They hold great importance and so, it is incumbent upon the people of knowledge and Eemaan and all of the muslims in the deserts, villages, cities and every place, to know of their virtue. They should compete in the way of good, increase in the remembrance of Allaah, recitation of the Qu’raan and in Tahleel, Tasbeeh, Tahmeed, Takbeer 2 and all other forms of goodness like Sadaqah and the enjoinment of good and forbiddance of evil. They should call the people to goodness, teach the ignorant and guide the misguided and other than this from various forms of goodness. 1. Sahih al-Bukhari 968 2. Tahleel: to say Laa Ilaaha Illallaah Tasbeeh:  to say Subhaan Allaah Tahmeed: to say: Alhamdulillaah Takbeer: to say: Allaahu Akbar 1
