DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OFFICE OF EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH AND IMPROVEMENT OFFICE OF REFORM ASSISTANCE AND DISSEMINATION Dear Reader: This is the fifth edition of The Guidebook of Federal Resources for K-12 Mathematics and Science prepared by the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse (ENC). The Guidebook is a comprehensive national directory of federal offices, programs, and facilities supporting K-12 education in these subject areas. Those of us in the Office of Educational Research and Improvement, like our colleagues in the entire U.S. Department of Education, are working to bring about educational reform and answer the President's Call to Action for American Education in the 21st century. The Eisenhower National Clearinghouse, in collaboration with the Eisenhower Regional Consortia, plays a strategic role in reaching National Education Goal Five, that American students will be the first in the world in mathematics and science achievement by the year 2000. This publication is part of a continuous effort to inform educators and the public about federally supported resources and to increase access to them. It contains information about federal offices and programs at the national and regional levels and also lists state-by-state contacts for many of these resources in your region. Information in this Guidebook is also available in electronic format as part of ENC's effort to provide online information and resources, including an extensive catalog of K-12 curriculum materials. The Eisenhower Regional Consortia will also assist in the dissemination of this publication. We hope you will use this valuable tool as you pursue methods and practices to advance and raise the quality of educational opportunities in mathematics and science for all students. Peirce A.
