The enduring mission of the ten regional education laboratories is to improve the quality of education by helping policymakers and practitioners apply the best available knowledge from research, development, and practice. The SouthEastern Regional Vision for Education (SERVE) is the regional education laboratory that serves the southeastern states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina. SERVE is a coalition of business leaders, governors, policymakers, and educators who are seeking systemic improvement in education. SERVE operates under a five-year contract with the U.S. Department of Education to provide leadership, support, and research to assist state and local efforts in improving educational outcomes, especially for at-risk and rural students. Laboratory goals are to address critical issues in the region, work as a catalyst for positive change, serve as a broker of exemplary research and practice, and become an invaluable source of information for organizations working to promote systemic educational improvement.
