His many outstanding contributions to engineering design, includinghiscontributiontothisbook, werehonouredinamemorial colloquium held in Berlin. It would have made me very happy if he had been able to see the continuing success of our book, including itstranslationintoPortuguese.Ourcollaborationwasaperfectone— alwaysfruitful,alwaysbeneficial.Iamdeeplygratefultohim. Thebook,“Pahl/Beitz—Konstruktionslehre”,hasnowbeentrans- latedintoeightlanguagesandrecognisedasaninternationalreference text.Forreasonsofcontinuity,ourpublisherSpringerwantedtopub- lish a fifth German edition of the book. To assist with this task two formerstudentsofWolfgangBeitzbecameinvolved:ProfessorDr.-Ing. Jörg Feldhusen and Professor Dr.-Ing. Karl-Heinrich Grote, both of whomhavecontinuallypromotedandexpandedhisideas.Professor Feldhusen worked for many years as a senior designer in the auto- motiveindustryandisnowatRWTHAachenUniversity, succeeding Professor Dr.-Ing. Description:
This proven and internationally recognized text teaches the methods of engineering design as a condition of successful product development. It breaks down the design process into phases and then into distinct steps, each with its own working methods. The book provides more examples of product develo
