Where God is…satan is not. When Saul became depressed, evil spirits came against his mind, and he brought in the psalmist David. The Bible says as David began to play his harp, the evil spirit left. As David began to sing The Holy Spirit entered and the evil spirits were displaced. “And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him,” (1 Samuel 16:23). God Is Not A Presence…He Is A Person With A Presence. His Presence is evidence of His Person. The quack is not the duck. The bark is not the dog. The Holy Spirit is a Person. He is not fire…He purifies like fire. He is not water…He cleanses like water. He is not wind…He moves like wind. The Holy Spirit can move suddenly and quickly in your life, like wind. “And suddenly there came a sound from Heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting,” (Acts 2:2). The Bible has much to say about God, the Person, the Aura, the Presence of God. The Old Testament is different from the New Testament. In the Old Testament The Holy Spirit visited. In the New Testament He stayed. In the Old Testament men would suddenly sense or feel an anointing. Samson experienced it. At one time in Saul’s life he became so different when The Holy Spirit came upon him that people asked, “Is this the same man?” On the Day of Pentecost, after the ascension of Jesus back to Heaven, Jesus said, “And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever,” (John 14:16). 5 There seems to be two distinct pictures of the Presence of God. The universal Presence of God refers to the omnipresence of the God we serve. The Psalmist referred to it, “If I ascend up into Heaven, Thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, Thou art there,” (Psalm 139:8). David said, “Whither shall I go from Thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from Thy presence?” (Psalm 139:7). “Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid Thine hand upon me,” (Psalm 139:5). The manifested Presence of God refers to when you sense Him, feel Him. There is a Scripture in the Word that talks about God being so real that His very Presence healed people. This seems to indicate there is an Anointing, a Glory and a Presence that is different in meaning. When you go into a restaurant, it is different than when you go to a Sunday morning service, where people are singing and worshiping God. It is the manifested Presence when you sense God. You feel a reaction in your heart causing you to weep and cry in the Presence of His Glory. I want you to experience the Power of His Presence as you have never known it before. That is why I wrote this book. 6 1 YOUR FOCUS IS CORRECTED IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD The Holy Spirit Imparts Confidence. When you enter into The Presence of God you see the world differently. The Psalmist put it this way, “I was angry, bitter and discouraged. I was disheartened when I saw the wicked, the prosperity of ungodly men. Until I went into the sanctuary of God then I understood their end,” (see Psalm 73). “For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked,” (Psalm 73:3). One Hour In The Presence of God Will Reveal The Flaws of Your Most Carefully Laid Plans. The Holy Spirit considers you His dwelling place. Our tormented thoughts would change if we would remember this verse. “That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us,” (2 Timothy 1:14). The Holy Spirit provides tenacity, strength and determination for those who become dependent on His Times of Refreshing Acts and addicted to His Presence. Doubts are deadly. Nothing is more poisonous than the roller coaster emotions regarding your salvation. Satan taunts, accuses and blames you for everything. “…for the accuser of our brethren is cast down,” (Revelation 12:10). Always remember, The Holy Spirit alone can impart the unshakable confidence that Christ dwells within you. It is The Holy Spirit Who confirms that Christ dwells within your heart and removes every doubt about Him. “Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit,” (1 John 4:13). The Holy Spirit gives us The Word of God as our special weapon, the Sword of the Spirit. “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,” (Ephesians 6:17). 7 The Word of God is the weapon that The Holy Spirit uses to destroy the works of satan. Treasure The Word of God. It is the only weapon satan cannot withstand. I encourage you to develop your relationship with The Holy Spirit by daily reading The Word of God. Talk Scriptures in every conversation. Timothy instructs us plainly, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth,” (2 Timothy 2:15). Your Focus Is Corrected In The Presence of God. 8 2 THE PRESENCE OF GOD ENABLES YOU TO SEE THE END RESULT OF YOUR PRESENT DECISION TO SERVE GOD There Are Two Laws of God Operating. The satanic law where satan offers you the fun things and then… “…the soul that sinneth, it shall die,” (Ezekiel 18:4). The way of the transgressor is hard. (See Proverbs 13:15.) Then there is another Divine Scriptural law. The law of the bittersweet, where the first part is bitter but it ends up sweet. “For the end of those things is death,” (Romans 6:21). Jesus said if you are going to follow Me you have to pick up your cross. “Then said Jesus unto His disciples, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me,” (Matthew 16:24). In Revelation He tells of the end results…that those who follow Him will also rule with Him. Something within you desires a sense of belonging. God knows where you belong. Something in you finds “belonging” necessary for comfort, satisfaction and rest. You are not forgotten by God. The Holy Spirit is the only One Who can give you the inner assurance that you truly are a child of God, belonging to the family of God. “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God,” (Romans 8:16). When satan reminds you of past failures, remind him of his future failure. The Holy Spirit sowed the Seeds of Greatness in you. “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father,” (Romans 8:15). Your Heavenly Father has uncommon plans for you. Because you have 9 chosen to serve Him, many benefits are awaiting you as you reach for them in faith. “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together,” (Romans 8:17). Sickness and disease will be defeated because of the faith working within you. Belonging to God births a hope that will motivate you toward purification. “And every man that hath this hope in Him purifieth himself, even as He is pure,” (1 John 3:3). Your faith will grow as you speak and hear The Word of God continually. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God,” (Romans 10:17). Your change of behavior is not the price of your relationship with Him, but the product of your intimacy with Him. The Presence of God Enables You To See The End Result of Your Present Decision To Serve God. RECOMMENDED INVESTMENTS: The Wisdom Commentary, Vol. 3 (Book/B-228/222 pg) 7 Rewards of The Secret Place (CD/WCPL-84) 10 11 3 THE PRESENCE OF GOD IS CRITICAL TO YOUR SPIRITUAL LIFE The Price of God’s Presence Is Time. Paul reminds us in the book of Hebrews the importance of spending time together with other believers. “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching,” (Hebrews 10:25). Peter said, “…one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day,” (2 Peter 3:8). “My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God,” (Psalm 84:2). “But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find Him, if thou seek Him with all thy heart and with all thy soul,” (Deuteronomy 4:29). If you have ever wondered, “Why am I here on this planet, earth?” It is time to get close to The Holy Spirit Who will talk to you and identify your specific Assignment designed specifically for you! The Holy Spirit will reveal to you the difference between the essential and nonessential issues. “For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things,” (Acts 15:28). That is why it is important to have a special place to meet with Him daily. My place is called The Secret Place. You must move away from the voices of others when you really want to hear The Voice of The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will teach you. “He shall teach you all things,” (John 14:26). You can only change when The Holy Spirit is talking into your life. Solitude is necessary for intimacy. Intimacy is necessary for impartation. Impartation is necessary for change. The Holy Spirit is the very Person Who can answer the questions that perplex 12 you. (See Acts 8.) The Holy Spirit expects you to continuously listen for His voice. “To day if ye will hear His voice, Harden not your heart,” (Psalm 95:7-8). The Holy Spirit will teach you about things in your Future. “He will shew you things to come,” (John 16:13). You do not know every operation of The Holy Spirit…yet millions are tasting the supernatural and uncommon events in their communication with Him…every day of their lives. You can, too! The Presence of God Is Critical To Your Spiritual Life. 13 4 THE PRESENCE OF GOD WILL BRING REPENTANCE God’s Presence Brings Conviction. When truth is spoken, God’s Presence emerges. It did under Jonah’s preaching. Jonah came to Nineveh and he screamed out “…in forty days, Nineveh [will] be destroyed,” (see Jonah 3:4). The Bible says the people went on a fast and God spared the city. “So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that He had said that He would do unto them; and He did it not,” (Jonah 3:5, 10). Your Focus Decides Your Feelings. Jonah’s focus was on himself instead of the deliverance of God’s people. His choice to change brought about the chance for repentance for many people. The Holy Spirit woos and draws us toward Him. He is merciful, gentle and kind. He is patient, longsuffering and labors over us as a mother would labor over a child in its tiny crib. His very Presence draws us to a place of repentance. Respond to His inner conviction and drawing power. “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation,” (2 Corinthians 6:2). His Presence keeps you tender towards Him. His Presence keeps you thirsty. When you do not pursue His Presence, the danger of becoming calloused and hardened is very real. When you feel troubled in your spirit, thank God for such a troubling. Go to Him in repentance. He is waiting to restore you. Never take His Presence lightly. “I will go and return to My place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek My face,” (Hosea 5:15). Jesus taught that The Holy Spirit was the secret of becoming an Overcomer. The book of Acts reminds us of the power available to us as believers. “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you,” (Acts 1:8). 14 You can overcome any temptation, addiction, grief or chaotic situation through The Holy Spirit. Repent when you have grieved Him. Let your dependency be upon Him and make you the Overcomer you desire to be. Always remember, The Holy Spirit will reveal specific Wisdom you require for living an overcoming life. Jesus knew the anointing that would enable the disciples to stand against anything. “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth,” (Acts 1:8). The Presence of God Will Bring Repentance. 15
