Radhika Index ......................................................................................................................321 Preface Distributed artificial intelligence (DAI) has emerged as a powerful paradigm for representing and solving complex problems. DAI is the branch of AI concerned with how to coordinate behavior among a collection of semi-autonomous problem-solving agents: how they can coordinate their knowledge, goals, and plans to act together, to solve joint problems, or to make individually or globally rational decisions in the face of uncertainty and multiple, conflicting perspectives. Growth of this field has been spurred by the advances in distributed computing environments and widespread information connectivity. Although DAI started as a branch of artificial intelligence, it has emerged as an independent research discipline in its own right, representing a confluence of ideas from several disciplines. Distributed, coordinated systems of problem-solvers are rapidly becoming practical partners in critical human problem- solving environments, and DAI is a rapidly developing field of both application and research, experiencing explosive growth around the world. This book presents a collection of articles surveying several major recent devel- opments in DAI. The book focuses on issues and challenges that arise in building practical DAI systems in real-world settings and covers some solutions of the issues. It provides a synthesis of recent thinking, both theoretical and applied, on major problems of DAI. vii Editors Satya Prakash Yadav is currently on the faculty of the Information Technology Department, ABES Institute of Technology (ABESIT), Ghaziabad, India. He sub- mitted his Ph.D. thesis entitled “Fusion of Medical Images in Wavelet Domain” to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) (formerly UPTU). A seasoned academician with more than 12 years of experience, he has published three books (Programming in C, Programming in C++, and Blockchain and Cryptocurrency). He has undergone industrial training programs during which he was involved in live projects with companies in the areas of SAP, Railway Traffic Management Systems, and Visual Vehicles Counter and Classification (used in the Metro rail network design). He is an alumnus of Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT), Delhi University, India. A prolific writer, Mr. Satya Prakash Yadav has published two pat- ents and authored many research papers. He also has presented research papers at many conferences in the areas of Image Processing and Programming. He is a lead editor in the Science Publishing Group and Eureka Journals. Dharmendra Prasad Mahato is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at National Institute of Technology Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, India. He earned his AMIETE degree in Computer Science and Engineering with distinction from the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), India, in 2011. He earned his Master of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering from Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management Gwalior in 2013 and his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi, India, in January 2018. His research interests include distributed comput- ing, artificial intelligence, operating systems, databases, and modeling and simu- lation. He has published in journals such as Applied Soft Computing, Swarm and Evolutionary Computation, ISA Transactions, Cluster Computing, Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience, and presented at conferences such as AINA, ICPP, ICDCN, and E-Science. Nguyen Thi Dieu Linh, Ph.D., works in the Division of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering in Electronics and Information, Faculty of Electronics Engineering Technology, Hanoi University of Industry, Vietnam (HaUI). She has been the head of the department since 2015. She has more than 18 years of academic experience in electronics, IoT, Smart Garden, and telecom- munication. She has authored or coauthored more than 21 research articles in jour- nals, books, and conference proceedings. She earned her Ph.D. in Information and Communication Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China, in 2013; her Master of Electronic Engineering from Le Quy Don Technical University, Hanoi, Vietnam, in 2006 and her Bachelor of Electronic Engineering from HCMC University of Technology and Education, Vietnam in 2004.
