En een niet onbelangrijke liefhebberij van Nemesio waren de vrouwen – in een kleine eeuw tijd versleet hij er vele en verwekte enkele kinderen. </p> <p>Tijdens de ceremonie krijgt Nemesio, inmiddels samenwonend met zijn verzorgster, een beroerte en raakt in een coma. De enige nabestaande is zijn zoon Nemo, die een grote afkeer van hem heeft en niets met hem te maken wil hebben. Maar terwijl Nemesio op zijn sterfbed ligt, droomt Nemo ’s nachts over het bijzondere leven van zijn vader. Hij wordt meegezogen in honderd jaar Italiaanse geschiedenis en gaandeweg begint hij te begrijpen waar zijn eigen wortels liggen. Eindelijk komt Nemo uit de schaduw van zijn beroemde vader.</p>
