Dear Festival Enthusiasts, It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the annual Na- tional Orchestra Festival, (NOF) sponsored by Thomastik-Infeld/ Connolly Music. The 2015 NOF showcases 16 spectacular ensem- bles representing 16 schools from across the United States. Before this event even begins, we want to offer our sincere congratula- tions on all your hard work and accomplishment on being accept- ed into ASTA’s premier festival. The NOF is proud to present some of the nation’s finest music ed- ucators as our adjudicators, performance clinicians, and master class clinicians. Each festival group receives taped and written comments, as well as ratings by each of the three concert adjudicators. At the end of each concert performance, one of our highly-qualified clinicians will provide each group a personal clinic focused on enhancing their music-making. Ad- ditionally, all orchestras will have the opportunity during the conference to work with master class clinicians. These clinicians have national and international reputations as musicians and teachers. ASTA is committed to delivering the highest artistic and educational experience to its members and their students. We are confident that the 2015 NOF will meet this goal. For the vast majority of students, teachers, and educators who are part of NOF, Ray Charles’ statement about music and its profound impact on his life is perhaps, rele- vant to us all. “I was born with music inside me. Music was one of my parts. Like my ribs, my kidneys, my liver, my heart. Like my blood. It was a force already within me when I arrived on the scene. It was a necessity for me-like food or water.” The students and teachers involved in performing at the NOF are blessed to have such on opportunity to discover and present the beauty and excitement of music. Thank you for your devotion to this art and for your preparation and dedication to each other. And, lastly . . . we thank you for your performance today in Salt Lake City. We wish you all the best of success! Sincerely, Valerie M.
