CHENCO TECHNOLOGIES THE VALUE CHOICE FOR FLUORO-CHEMICAL INDUSTRY Datta Umalkar, Technology Expert CHENCO GmbH Fluorspar 2015, Morocco Overview CHENCO Field of Activities • Active in chemical industry for past 50 years • Chenco Business includes supply of • Technology / Know-how • Basic Engineering • Detailed drawings for key proprietary equipments • Plant commissioning • Consultancy services tailored for customer need • Chenco customers are spread all over • Europe • Asia . • North/ South America Fluorspar 2015, Morocco, October 6. - 8. Merit Of Chenco Technologies • Chenco plants can use low quality / cheaper raw material ( ) Fluorspar with high Phosphate and Arsenic • Chenco plants are the most economic • Lowest capital cost • Lowest operational cost (RM + energy) • Plants are simple to operate and maintain • Highest quality • Greenest Environmental Footprint available • They meet strictest environmental standards • Chenco has improved performance (capacity/quality) of many HF/AlF3 plants operating with 3rd party technologies. Fluorspar 2015, Morocco, October 6. - 8. Range of Chenco Process Technologies • Anhydrous Hydrofluoric Acid (AHF) • Aluminium (Tri) Fluoride (AlF ) 3 • Lithiumhexafluorophosphate (LiPF ) 6 • Borontrifluoride (BF ) 3 • • Ammonium Bifluoride (NH HF ) 4 2 • Electronic Grade HF (EGHF) • Arsenic Removal Process from AHF • Cryolite (Na AlF ) 3 6 Fluorspar 2015, Morocco, October 6. - 8. Technology Anhydrous Hydrofluoric Acid (AHF) Globally there are Ten AHF plants operating with Chenco Technology. Fluorspar 2015, Morocco, October 6. - 8. AHF – Technology Anhydrous Hydrofluoric Acid (AHF) AHF is produced in an indirectly heated Rotary Reactor under small vacuum by reaction of 98% Sulfuric Acid and 20% Oleum and dried Fluorspar (97%). The reaction is represented by the following equation: → ∆Η CaF + H SO 2 HF + CaSO = 25.6 kJ/mol HF 2 2 4 4 The reaction is endothermic, e.g. requires a constant supply of heat energy for its completion. Calcium sulfate is produced as a by-product and this synthesized anhydrite is used in the building-, cement- and fertilizer- industry. Chenco process can be modified to accommodate CaF2 with high SiO2, P2O5, As-content impurities Fluorspar 2015, Morocco, October 6. - 8. AHF - Technology Anhydrous hydrofluoric Acid (AHF) Application • AHF is a precursor of number of fluoro compounds • Hydro Fluoro hydrocarbons (HFC refrigerants ) • Aluminium fluoride • Cryolite • ABF • UF 6 • BF • LiPF 3 6 • Stainless Steel pickling • Glass etching • Fluorine containing Plastics • Alkylation Catalysis to produce Aviation, Gasoline, etc. Fluorspar 2015, Morocco, October 6. - 8. ALF Technology 3 Aluminium fluoride (AlF ) 3 Globally there are 10 Alf3 plants operating with Chenco Technology. Fluorspar 2015, Morocco, October 6. - 8. AlF Technology 3 Aluminium fluoride (AlF ) 3 Aluminium Fluoride is produced by reacting wet (3-7 % H O) Aluminium Hydroxide with the Hydrofluoric 2 Acid gas in a one bed expanded fluid bed reactor. → 2Al(OH) Al O + 3 H O 3 2 3 2 → Al O + 6HF 2 AlF + 3 H O 2 3 3 2 The first reaction is endothermic; the second-one is exothermic. The fluid bed reactor needs some heat during normal operation. For starting up, the reactor has to be preheated. Fluorspar 2015, Morocco, October 6. - 8.
