Tenedbon (095) 331-24-20. ‘Maxcum Bnaduuuposue Enox FOREWORD Dear chesstriend! ‘One of the most important components of chess skils is one’s ability to conduct a tactical fight. Therefore is essentialto study the theory of chess tactics, to develop one’s combinational vision, and to improve one’s abilty of calculating tactical complications. inthis book, the author continues his researches in this field that have been initiatedin hiss previous books (*1200 Combinations”, Moscow 1992; "Combination Art, Moscow 1999; "The Manual of Chess", Moscow 1997). ‘This book is dedicated to a detaifed classification of combinational motifs, -tacticat ‘weaknesses in one's position, particular features of pieces’ placement and co-operation thal offer an opportunity to find and to perform a combination, This classification enables the usage ofthis work in two ways ~as an exercise book as well as a manual, The detailed tabie of contents facilitates searching good thematical examples when coach prepares slulf for chess lessons, while less experienced players can consider it as a subtle hintin case of dificulties. Moreover, the author's intention was to arrange the exercises ‘consequently along with developmentoftacticatideas. Therefore, inmary cases, the solution ofthe previous exercise can be helpful in inding the clue to acurrertione. For a successful work with the book, a certain level of knowiedge of basic tactical methods is required. Therefore | strongly recommend, particularly to younger readers, to study the chapter "Basics of Chess Tactics" from my“Manual of Chess” (Moscow, 1997). Many positions that are represented here are so extremely sharp that anly a single solution for White exists when he is on move, while Black, when on move, can feach a success also Ina single possible way! (By the way, when the opposite side is on move its actions can thernatically belong to some other section of the book}. The author tried to gather postions that are characterised bya unique solution (therefore some positions from practical games have been slightly modified}, creative richness, and instructive value Positions that are given without mentioning their source are composed by the author and used by him during his classes for young players. ‘The numeric value incircies (on top of every diagram to the right) indicates its level of ‘complexity in points. The author recommends fist to try and find a solution, making written notes but without moving the pieces on the board. Those examples that could not be solved atthe first attempt should be thoroughly studied tater, after the frst reading ofthe bookis over. "hope that you wil enjoy the book and substantially improve your play Uwough stuctving ft. Please forward your opinions and temarks about this book and the computer program GT-ART (Chess Tactics Art}, based upon it, to the author's address: MBIoKn 117418 Moscow, F.B.13 Russia PREFACIO YQuerides amigos!
