Autograph your work with excellence. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. —Aristotle Preface Back To Basics Critical Care Transport Certification Review (BCCTPC) is intended to meet the needs of prehospital care providers at all levels as they strive for ever-increasing clinical excellence when preparing to take the certification examinations. Prehospital care providers are confronted daily by a variety of clinical conditions and must have an in-depth understanding of the pathophysiology of these conditions to be able to assess and provide the medical treatment necessary. This book in organized into ten modules, which includes fifty questions in each module, with a total of five hundred practice questions that will assist the readers in preparing for the certification examination. Each question is provided with the answer and rationale, which includes a comprehensive explanation as to why the answer is correct and why the other answers are not correct. The practice questions with rationale will provide the reader with a better conceptual basic understanding of the subject matter. The figures and tables provided illustrate pertinent concepts, thereby facilitating reading comprehension. This format also makes the text useful as a quick reference guide. Study flashcards have been provided to assist the reader in testing themselves over a variety of topics and subject areas that could be included on the certification examination. The BCCTPC examination content outlines have been provided so that the reader has a better understanding of what topics or subject areas can be asked on the certification examination. Studying is only a part of getting good results on your exam. Preparation for your examination should begin several months prior; this includes studying, reviewing study materials on a regular basis, and if possible, attending a BCCTPC-approved sixteen-hour FP-C/CCP-C review course. Students with better study methods and strategies have a better success in passing the certification examination. Everyone is different; different methods work for different people, and tips on how to study for the exam have been provided for the purpose of improving upon your current studying techniques. The material in this textbook contains the most current information available at the time of publication. It is the responsibility of the readers to familiarize themselves and to stay informed of any new changes or recommendations in the policies and procedures set by the federal, state, and local agencies as well as the institution or agency where the reader is employed. The author and the publisher of this textbook disclaim any liability, loss, or risk resulting directly or indirectly from the suggested procedures and theory from any undetected errors or from the reader’s misunderstanding of the textbook. All information used in advanced cardiac life support reflects the current guidelines. Issues and concerns related to geriatrics, pediatrics, obstetrics, and neonates are integrated throughout the text. The national standards for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and emergency cardiovascular care (ECC) are reviewed and revised on a regular basis and may change after the publication of this textbook. It is important that you know the most current recommended guidelines for CPR and ECC.
