Description:This was a GREAT book - back in 1990. It's now badly out of date. It tells you all about photometers of 20 years ago that used photo-electric tubes or pulse counters, but says nothing about what people use today for photometry (CCD cameras). The technology described in this book is ancient considering the major advancements that have been made since 1990. For example, it tells you to make sure you use a computer that has 20MB of DASD! This book is badly in need of an update.
Nevertheless, there are aspects of photometry that have not changed in 20 years and for those aspects this is still one of the best books out there. But often it's hard to know whether the procedures and techniques they describe are dependent on the old technology and now you should use new procedures with CCD equipment, or whether the procedures and techniques still apply. So it's very difficult trying to sort out what is still relevant vs. what is ancient history.
