Presenter: Colonel Matthew Botsford C4I – Command Control Communications Computers and Intelligence – Slide 1 • Arty Sys C4I Sub-Portfolio delivering and sustaining C4I equipment capability for the Joint Fires community. • Equipments Delivered – FC BISA – DTT – D-JFI – NABK – CDM – JPM C4I – Slide 2 FC BISA (Fire Control Battlefield Information System Application) is the networked Fires application to provide interoperable digitally aided fires and rapid information sharing in a digital world. Defence Targetting Toolset (DTT) - Provides a strategic, operational and tactical C4I software application that will enable Joint Action through effective orchestration, coordination and synchronization of Joint Fires and Information Activities across National and Multinational, Joint and Component levels of command and below, in accordance with the UK’s Effect Based Approach (EBA) Dismounted Joint Fires Integrator (D-JFI) Will provide the User with a capability to be able to generate and communicate target information from a dismounted configuration to effector systems for integrated employment of Joint precision and non-precision fires to achieve tactical success. C4I – Slide 3 JPM (Joint Point Mensuration) is the defence wide capability that supports deliberate targeting between tactical and strategic level. CDM (UK Collateral Damage Model) provides estimates of casualties and structural damage NABK (NATO Armaments Ballistic Kernel) is the NATO database for ballistic calculations and production of firing tables STA Surveillance & Target Acquisition • Arty Sys STA Sub-Portfolio delivering and sustaining Surveillance & Target Acquisition equipment for the Joint Fires community. • Equipments Supported – MAMBA – FIRESTORM – LCMR – ASP – MSTAR STA Surveillance & Target Acquisition (Slide 2) MAMBA (Mobile Artillery Monitoring Battlefield Radar) – BV 206 mounted Weapon Locating Radar provides a capability to identify enemy mortar, artillery, and rocket firing positions as well as a warning when such attacks are in progress and present a danger to allied forces. Undergoing Mid-life extension to take capability out to 2026. Firestorm Target mensuration and observation capability which is lightweight & portable enabling dismounted Forward Air Controllers and Forward Observation Officers to identify and communicate target information which allows precision target prosecution for fires from both land fires and aircraft. Originally brought into service as UOR equipment. Due to be replaced by D-JFI in 2020. STA Surveillance & Target Acquisition (Slide 3) LCMR (Lightweight Counter Mortar Radar) – Man portable Weapon Location Radar that provides a capability to identify enemy mortar, Artillery and Rocket firing positions. Brought in service as a UOR. Currently undergoing activities to bring capability into core. ASP (Advanced Soundranging Programme) – Trailer transported, passive, acoustic weapon locating system. Uses acoustic data processing techniques to determine the location of artillery, mortar, tanks, mine & IED explosions with exceptional accuracy, reliability and speed, typically within 1% of range at 15 kilometres. Monitors activity over a very large area.Undergoing Mid-life extension to take capability out to 2026 MSTAR (Man Portable Surveillance & Target Acquisition RADAR) – is a lightweight all-weather battlefield Doppler radar. Used to acquire and engage targets in bad visibility or at night. It is capable of detecting, recognizing and tracking tracked and wheeled vehicles and troops, as well as observing and adjusting the fall of shot. Undergoing Mid-life extension to take capability out to 2026 STA Surveillance & Target Acquisition (Slide 3) LCMR (Lightweight Counter Mortar Radar) – Man portable indirect fire detection radar. Brought in service as a UOR. Currently undergoing activities to bring capability into core ASP (Advanced Soundranging Programme) – Trailer transported, passive, acoustic weapon locating system. Rockets • This provides the only organic deep fires precision fires capability for the Royal Artillery. It is a 24/7 capability. • The capability comprises of the M270B1 UFCS tracked platform coupled with the GMLRS M31A1 GPS aided guided Rocket. The capability is supported by a Repair and Recovery Vehicle. • Combat proven with over 500 fire missions over 5 years in Afghanistan
