Larissa is Professor of Law and Director of Research at the Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning. She is a barrister, founding member of the Australian Academy of Law and a director of the Bangarra Dance Theatre and the Museum of Contemporary Art. She won the 2002 David Uniapon Award and a 2005 Commonwealth Writer’s Prize for her novel Home. david BurcheLL Dr David Burchell teaches history and political thought at the University of Western Sydney. His publications include Western Horizon: Sydney’s Heartland and the Future of Aus- tralian Politics (2003) and The Prince’s New Clothes: Why do Australians Dislike Their Politicians? (with Andrew Leigh, UNSW Press, 2002). David also writes a weekly column for The Australian. viii All thAt's left nick dyrenfurth Dr Nick Dyrenfurth is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Work and Organisational Studies at the University of Sydney. Previously he taught history and politics at Monash Univer- sity. Nick is the author of Heroes and Villains: the Rise and Fall of the Early Australian Labor Party (2010) and co-edited Confusion: The Making of the Australian Two-Party System (2009). He is a frequent contributor to The Australian. Geoff GaLLop Professor Geoff Gallop AC studied at the University of Western Australia, Murdoch University and the University of Oxford before becoming a member of the Western Austra- lian Parliament in 1986. He was a minister in the Lawrence Government (1990–93) and the Leader of the Opposition from 1996 to 2001. From 2001 to 2006 he was the Premier of Western Australia. Since 2006 he has been the Director of the Graduate School of Government at the University of Sydney. dennis GLover Dr Dennis Glover is an author and speechwriter with many years experience on the staff of senior politicians. His opinion columns, essays and reviews appear predominantly in The Australian. Dennis is also a fellow of Per Capita, a progres- sive think tank. His most recent book was Orwell’s Aus- tralia (2003). The Art of Great Speeches will be published in notes on Contributors ix late 2010. He holds degrees from Monash and Cambridge universities. david hetherinGton David Hetherington is the founding Executive Director of Per Capita, a progressive think tank. He has previously worked at the UK’s Institute for Public Policy Research and LEK Consulting. His articles have appeared in The Austra- lian, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Austra- lian Financial Review, and he is a regular commentator on ABC Radio National. David studied Arts at UNSW and holds a Master of Public Administration from the London School of Economics. pauL howes Paul Howes is the National Secretary of the Australian Workers’ Union and Vice President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions. He has been a union official since 1999 and holds a number of positions on government and private advisory boards including as a director of the nation’s largest superannuation fund, AustralianSuper. tony Moore Dr Tony Moore is Director of Monash University’s National Centre for Australian Studies, a Fellow of the Centre for Policy Development, and Research Director for the Austra- lian Fabian Society.
