Foreword
Forty-third National Systems Conference (NSC 2019) was organized by
Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Indian Institute of
Technology Roorkee, during 6–8 December 2019. Indian Institute of Technology
Roorkee is the oldest technical institution in the country and shall be completing
175yearsin2022.Theinstituteranksamongstthebesttechnologicalinstitutionsin
the world and has contributed to all sectors of technological development. It has
been a trendsetter in the area of education and research in the field of science,
technology and engineering.
The theme of this National Conference “Innovative and Emerging Trends in
Engineering Systems” explores cutting-edge ideas for handling complex systems
throughholisticsystemsthinking.Thepapersoftheconferencetouchstate-of-the-art
applicationofthemostrecentscientificknowledgeofarangeofsystemsinthefield
of human language technologies, information retrieval, health and welfare, engi-
neeringandtransportation,environmentandsustainabledevelopment,businessand
economicsandenergyresourcesandpolicy.Besidesapplicationindifferenttypesof
systems, few papers haveused AI/machine learningconcepts insystemanalysis.
Thepapersoftheconferenceexplaintherelevanceofsystemsengineeringideas
in interpreting different complex problems relevant to the contemporary science
and technology development. This proceedings is a systematic documentation of
research undertaken by different researchers on the theme of the conference. An
overview of the papers indicates strong interdisciplinary character of systems
engineering research. Future efforts of interdisciplinarity will help in improved
understanding of complex engineering systems.

of emergent complexity.
This book is a collection of selected cutting-edge research articles from the
forty-third National Systems Conference on “Innovative and Emerging Trends in
Engineering Systems” (NSC 2019). The Department of Mechanical and Industrial
Engineering, IIT Roorkee, and the Systems Society of India jointly organized the
conferencefrom6Decemberto8December2019atIITRoorkee,India.Thisbook
gives the participants a vehicle for disseminating their ideas and is envisioned to
serve as reference guide for researchers and practitioners in holistic systems
thinking.
TheNSC2019received153full-lengthpapersagainsttheannouncement,which
were peer-reviewed, each by two experts from IITs and other eminent institutions.
Outofthese,86papershavebeenfinallyincludedinthisbook.Itcomprisesthestate
of the art in systems engineering covering a spectrum of research areas such as
roboticsystems,dynamicalsystems,materialsandsystems,manufacturingsystems,
space systems, thermal systems, green energy systems, data analytics systems,
mathematicalsystems,solarenergysystems,literaryandconsciousnesssystemsand
miscellaneous systems.
We remain ever grateful to the Founder of Systems Society of India, Most
Revered Prof. Prem Saran Satsangi, who has been a source of inspiration for all
